1947. Original, vintage, black and white photographs. Size: ca. 170 × 110 mm. Two of them with printing proofs in pencil on verso (size and title), one with trace of mounting. Overall all the images are in fine condition.
A collection of five photographs of the ruins of the Warsaw Ghetto, taken during Herman Gilman’s visit in 1947.
Three of the images are showing him and Józef Gitler-Barski among the ruins of the Ghetto, one image an unidentified woman among the rubble and one of a ruins of probably the wall of the ghetto (a copy of this image could be found in the collection of Yad Vashem; Archival Signature: 1605/81, Item ID: 10347).
Herman Gilman (1899–1996) was the head of the Combined Jewish Appeal in Boston and a representative of the JDC (American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee).
Józef Gitler-Barski (1898–1990) was the general secretary of the JDC in Poland.
