Memorial speech, delivered by Scholem at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem on the thirtieth day after Franz Rosenzweig’s death.

Inscribed in Hebrew to Kitty Marx-Steinschneider (1905–2002), who was a close friend of Scholem and also Walter Benjamin. “The fruits of pen – “Oh, for the days when I was in my prime, when God's intimate friendship blessed my house. G.” The quotation is the taken from Job’s closing monologue (Job 29:4). (פרי עטי – לקטי. 'כאשר הייתי בימי חרפי, בסוד אלוה עלי אהלי)

Scholem and Rosenzweig met only three times personally. Scholem states about Rosenberg in this speech that he was one of the most sublime religious manifestations of the greatness and genius of the Jewish people, and nevertheless admits the he was a man with dictatorial tendencies.
