Official communication of the Armistice of Villafranca that ended the Second Italian War of Independence in 1859.
The armistice was signed by Napoleon III and Franz Joseph I of Austria, and it had a crucial part in the process of the Italian unification. The war was fought between the Second French Empire and the Kingdom of Sardinia against the Austrian Empire, and resulted with the Franco-Sardinian victory, so Sardinia annexed Lombardy from Austrian and France gained Savoy and Nice from Sardinia.
