One of the most influential works in the history of modern double-entry book-keeping.

Posthumously published by the author's son Nicolas Barrême. Francois Barrême had been a merchant himself and became a teacher of book-keeping and founder of an Academy of Commerce in Paris and a protege of Colbert. He wrote several books on commercial arithmetic of which his Livre facile pour apprendre l'arithmetique (1698) became best known.
