A fervent defense of the Moriscos’ expulsion from Spain, offering essential insights into their customs and the prejudices of the time.

Pedro Aznar Cardona’s Expulsion justificada de los Moriscos españoles is a defense of the 1609–1614 expulsion of the Moriscos, Muslims who had converted to Christianity, from Spain under King Philip III. The expulsion was driven by fears of disloyalty and religious subversion, resulting in the forced removal of hundreds of thousands. Aznar Cardona's work is one of the most extreme examples of the justifications offered at the time, attributing numerous negative traits to the Moriscos and blaming them for their own persecution.

Aznar Cardona, a significant religious figure from Huesca, authored this treatise in part as a defense of the Spanish Crown's actions. His book, although heavily biased and intended as propaganda, offers a wealth of information on Morisco customs and the prejudices held by Old Christian society. Aznar Cardona used theological arguments to portray the Moriscos in a negative light, even going so far as to claim that Muhammad was a precursor of the Antichrist. Despite its extreme rhetoric, the work remains a valuable historical document, providing insight into the attitudes and justifications used during one of Spain's most significant acts of ethnic and religious cleansing.

The book is rare on the market, with RBH recording only one sale at Ketterer Kunst in 2005. Recently, another copy was offered by Peter Harrington.
