The first printed edition of the 3-act play with lyrics by Tamás Emőd and music by Albert Szirmai was published in 1923. The famous composer Albert Szirmai (born Schönberger), who emigrated to America five years later, wrote the music for Tamás Emőd's 1923 libretto entitled Mézeskalács. Nothing proves the success of the play better than the fact that Sári Fedák took it on an American tour with his independent theater company. Gyula Juhász's poem dedicated to Tamás Emőd, written in 1924, is the title of this play.
The work is about a fugitive soldier named Jóska, who buys a gingerbread heart for his love at the Nekeresd fair.
