The year 1926 corresponds to the period when the relationship between the musician and the writer was the most intense. At the end of the summer of 1925, Stravinsky had asked Jean Cocteau to compose a libretto for an opera-oratorio on the myth of Oedipus, with the directive that the text be in Latin. The text was translated by the future cardinal Jean Daniélou. OEdipus Rex is one of the masterpieces of 20th century lyrical music.
