First edition of the scarce Spanish news letter supposedly addressed to the Spanish Governor-General of the Philippines Islands.

A printed copy of an anonymously written long letter supposedly sent for Sabiniano Manrique de Lara, the Spanish Governor-General of the Philippines Islands in the “worthy and always loyal City of Manila”, containing news from the preceding two years from Europe, and other items that would be of interest to the Governor-General and the Spaniards of Manila. The first two leaves contain the Spanish news, including military and naval successes and an account of the death and funeral of the Cardinal-Infante Ferdinand of Austria (1641). Then follows the news from Italy, France, England, Flanders, and Germany including some English news about the quarrel between the King and his Parliament, and reports about the volcanic eruptions and an earthquake on the Canary Island and the Philippines.

Scarce, IB lists only three copies worldwide, two in Madrid of which one is incomplete (BNE VC/154/33; IB 57538), the other one is held at Hemeroteca Municipal (IB 57054), and the third copy is in Hamburg at the Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek (B 1945/425; IB 57054).
