Folio. 24 introductory leaves with text in English, French and German and 13 tinted lithographed plates, printed by Korn, Berlin. Plate I loose, (marginal) foxing and some other small defects. Head of the spine little bit damaged. Good copy.

Very rare book on South America. Specially on the region of Columbia and New Granda.

At the suggestion of Alexander von Humboldt, Albert Berg undertook a journey to New Granada in 1849 and published this work on the local vegetation in 1854. Friedrich Wilhelm IV became aware of Berg through Humboldt, and in 1853/54 he undertook an official journey to Rhodes and western Asia. From 1860 to 1862 he took part in the Prussian East Asia Expedition to Japan and China as a landscape painter.
