First edition. In original yellow paper, title printed in red. With the publisher’s coloured lithograph paper book band, printed in yellow, blue and black. 159, (5) p. (10 full page illustrations included), 11 plates with black and white photographic reproductions, and 2 facsimiles of handwritten letters. Torn to page 53. Cover and book band artistically restored. In fine condition.

József Rippl-Rónai (1861–1927) was a Hungarian painter, the first who introduced modern artistic movements in Hungary. Studied painting in Munich and Paris, where he became associated with the Nabis group. He is known as the illustrator, together with his friend the Scottish James Pitcairn-Knowles Georges, Rodenbach’s book “Les Vierges. Les Tombeaux” (Paris, 1895).
