An extremely scarce, complete album of reproductions of the most important artworks from the Esterházy-collection.

This comprehensive album presents 50 artworks, reproductions of works by some of the most important Old Masters.

The majority of the impressive Esterházy Collection, consisting of 637 paintings, thousands of drawings, and about 50 thousand etchings, was collected by Nicholas II, Prince Esterházy (1765–1833), at the beginning of the 19th Century. The complete collection was bought by the Hungarian state in 1870–1871, which laid the foundation of the National Picture Gallery, the predecessor of the Museum of Fine Arts. To this day, it is the core of the museum’s most important collection, the Old Master Painting, presenting almost 3000 paintings by European masters, such as Caravaggio, Correggio, Rubens, Rembrandt, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, as well as it preserves one of Europe’s most prominent Spanish collection, including paintings by Francisco Goya, and Bartolomé Esteban Murillo.

Present album features all the above-mentioned painters.

Extremely scarce, WorldCat couldn’t trace any complete copies in institutional holdings and only two incomplete ones, held at the LLB in Germany, and the Leiden University, in The Netherlands.
