Item #1575 Museum, 1973. Károly Halász.
Signed, Hungarian Neo-Avant-Garde Poster

Museum, 1973.

[S. l.]: [S.n], 1973. Original, vintage poster. Printed in black-and-white. 205 × 289 mm. Signed in the upper right in pen. In fine condition.

Signed poster by the Hungarian Neo-Avant-Garde artist, Károly Halász (1946–2016).

The poster shows the black-and-white photographic reproduction of the documentation of Halász’s 1973 performance, “Museum”. His performance took place at a gathering of the Pécs Workshop, a collective of neo-avant-garde artists of the south-west Hungarian city, Pécs, which operated on the blind spot of the Hungarian art scene between the late sixties and the eighties. Halász kept track of Western European and American art and identified with international trends. He worked in several different media. His oeuvre included concept art, installation, performance art, body art, video, and film. In his 1973 work he “recreated” the most important locations of art from cardboard and created miniature reproductions of artworks, which he considered as the most important ones and placed them into jars.
