In somewhat later cloth with embossed horizontal lines running through. [6], 133, (1) p. and 16 plates. Cover slightly worn at the edges. Ownership stamp on title page. Slight foxing to the first few pages. Pages slightly yellowed due to acidic paper. Small trace of creasing to the upper left corner of the first plate. In fine condition.

Richly illustrated travel memoir of the Hungarian vintner, hunter and writer, member of the parliament, Imre Szalay (1846–1902), who travelled to South India and Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) in 1895–96. The book contains a detailed description of Szalay’s travel experiences in Bombay and Ceylon, including the flora and fauna, the Buddhist religious architecture and the culture of Sinhalese people. His memoir, with sixteen photographs taken on the travel, was published a year after his return to Hungary.
