Written in collaboration with August Maquet. The first of the three Valois Romances, with Dumas’ finest historical portraits. First appeared as a serial, ran through the columns of “La Presses”, Reed (in: A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père) considers the 1845 Paris, Gamier Frères edition as original.
