First Hungarian edition of Voltaire’s tragedy, ”Le fanatisme, ou Mahomet le Prophete”.
Voltaire five-act tragedy was written in 1736, premiered in 1741 and the first pirate editions appeared in 1742 while the first authorized edition was published in 1743 (Amsterdam, Ledet).
Antal Zechenter, known for his translations of mostly French plays, among them Voltaire’s Adélaïde du Guesclin, Corneille’s Horace and Racine’s Mithridate.
