Stanisław Lem (1921–2006) was a Polish satirical and philosophical science fiction writer, the most celebrated SF author in the Communist world. His novel “Solaris” has been adapted to screen twice, by Andrei Tarkovsky in 1972 and by Steven Soderbergh in 2002.
