Scarce book, an analysis of the political history of the United States, and the American democracy through the eye of an Austrian statesman, who found it as a threat to the monarchical and aristocratic order of Europe. The book is considered as a semi-official emanation of the Austrian Cabinet.

Written by Johann Georg Hülsemann, who later became Austria’s longtime diplomatic representative in Washington (1838 to 1863). He is famous for his duel of words with Daniel Webster, the Secretary of State concerning the Hungarian Revolution of 1848 and seeking for independence from the Austrian Empire.
