Communist propaganda poster for subscribing “peace loan”, designed by György Konecsni (1908–1970), in the style of the socialist realism.

A happy worker in the front, staring in the bright future while signing the loan; a factory in the background under construction. The text under the image, printed in red, urging the reader to subscribe the loan.

The Communist régime in Hungary, alike the Stalinist Soviet Union, launched it’s huge industrial development plan in 1951, the Hungarian Five-Year Plan, that they also called the “Peace-Plan”, to build the “Greatest Peace-Monuments”, socialist factories, and industrial cities like “Sztálinváros” (Stalin City), and to turn the country into the “Land of Iron and Steel”. To cover – at least partly – the expenses of the investments they mobilized the population to finance the efforts by subscribing the the so-called “peace-loan”, a special form of government bond. This poster is an example of the its propaganda.
