The “Theatre on the Balustrade” was established in 1958 and became the centre of the Czech form of the absurd theatre in the 1960s with the arrival of director Jan Grossman, set designer Libor Fára and a stage hand and later dramaturg and playwright Václav Havel. Grossman and Havel worked there until 1968 when they were both forced to leave the theatre because of political reasons.
