A Kommunisták Kiáltványa (The communist manifesto)

Budapest: Vass József, 1896. First Hungarian edition. In contemporary half cloth. 40 p. Nice condition.

Extremely rare, first Hungarian edition of Communist manifesto. Edited by Dezső Bokányi and Sándor Pfeifer, two well-known leaders of the Social Democratic Party of Hungary. Since their names were also on the title page, and the short preface was closed only by the signature "translator", they were mistakenly recognized as the translators of the book. The translator was Rezső Krejcsi, later secretary general of the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Bound with five, other booklet dealing with socialism, from the end of the 19th century: 1. Mezőfi Vilmos: Weitling Vilmos, a legelső német kommunista élete és tanítása. Függelék: Egy szegény bűnös evangéliuma. (Budapest. 1897. Közművelődés.) 158 p. First edition. 2. Lassalle, Ferdinand: A soczialis eszme jövője.Bp. 1895. Minta-Antiquarium. (Vass.) 48 l. 3. Hatala Péter: A jogos socialismus. Bp. 1898. Gross. 77 p. 4.
