Acta et Constitutiones contains the proceedings of the 1591 diocesan synod of Olomouc. The synod, where the decrees of the Council of Trent (1545–63) were formally accepted, acknowledged, and promulgated for and by the clergy of Moravia, was gathered by the Bishop of Olomouc, Stanislav Pavlovský (von Pavlovitz; ca. 1545–1598).
Besides his ecclesiastical activities, through his position, power, and wealth, Pavlovský acted as a Renaissance magnate in Moravia and became a patron of art and science, and a supporter of literary activity. He initiated the publication of various ecclesiastical works, and he was also behind the printing of Acta et Constitutiones, the present book, containing the acts and the constitution of the 1591 diocesan synod of Olomouc, gathered by himself. Apparently, Pavlovský donated some copies of this work to parishes or other libraries, we found another copy at the Cieszyn Historical Library (Poland) in similar binding, with Pavlovský’s heraldic supralibros on the rear panel and the medallion of Christ on the front.
An extremely rare book, not in USTC. WorldCat lists only four copies (not the one in Cieszyn).
An extremely scarce Olomouc imprint, in its first, contemporary Czech binding with the supralibros of the Bishop of Olomouc, the initiator of the Olomouc synod.
