Rare medical book on watered-down wine.

In this scarce medical book Jeronimo Pardo de Villarroel, a professor at the University of Valladolid, describes the properties of the good wine and water, and discusses the medical uses of the watered-down wine, and the agua envinada the “wined water”. Pardo derives his ideas from Hippocrates’ aphorism “Alyce, id est, anxietudo, oscitatio, horror, vinum aequale, aequali potum solvit, aegritudinem” (Equally watered-down wine eliminates anguish and cravings, and gasps and tremors), and analyzes the qualities, quantities, and proportions of the ingredients, quotes other classics authors, and proves several positive properties of the diluted wine compared to pure wine, water and “wined water”.
