A Collection of Five Early 20th Century Photographs of Hungarian Arm Tattoos.

[Hungary]: Early 20th Century. Original, vintage black and white photographs. Gelatin silver print. Various sizes: ca 60 × 90 – 80 × 110 mm. Two images are mounted on cardboard. With traces of crease, silver mirroring, fading. Overall in very good condition.

A scarce collection of five photographs documenting simple tattoos, probably prison tattoos.

Each picture is numbered and labeled on the verso with the name of the tattoo wearer and the location of the tattoo. The tattoos are simple designs, such symbols as a heart, or heart and dagger, the coat of arms of Hungary, or the initials of the wearer’s name and date.
