Janusz Korczak (1878/9–1942) was a Polish Jewish educator, children’s author, and pedagogue. He wrote several books on pedagogy, was a pioneer of children’s right, being among the first ones to speak up against corporal punishment. After many years of being the principal of an orphanage for Jewish children, he refused sanctuary and stayed with the orphans when they were taken to Treblinka extermination camp by the Nazis, during the Grossaktion Warschau of 1942.
