Scarce first edition of the first Polish translation of an early work by William Morris.

Sztuka, jej troski i nadzieje is a partial translation of a collection of talks given by Morris, originally published under the title Hopes and Fears for Arts in 1882.

Although he is best known as a textile designer, William Morris (1834–1896) is also considered a pioneer of the modern fantasy genre as well as a social activist who helped to win acceptance of socialism in Great Britain.

Published in Polish the same year as Morris’ novel News from Nowhere (Wieści z nikąd), Hopes and Fears for Arts is likely to be the first of his works to be translated into Polish.
