Atelier was a progressive, private art school, keeping a close watch on European trends. Founded in 1931, by the modernist painter Dezső (Desiderius) Orbán (1884–1986) with recognized artists as teachers including Bauhaus architect Farkas Molnár; Anna Lesznai (1885–1966), a key figure of the Hungarian Art Nouveau; and modernist architect and graphic designer Lajos Kozma 1884–1948).
