Freud’s Autograph Letter

[ALS.] Sigmund Freud’s Autograph Letter in German to Frau Wolff.

Vienna: 1927. One page, with a personal letterhead. Signed “Freud”, dated February 27, 1927. 150 × 226 mm. Folded once. With some traces of light creases and wrinkles. Two light brown spots of soiling at the margins and one inoffensive stain to the ink, with no effect on legibility. Overall in very good to fine condition.

Sigmund Freud’s signed holograph letter to Frau Wolff regarding the treatment of the recipient’s daughter at the Berlin Poliklinik.

Freud offers to Mrs. Wolff to recommend her daughter to a physician at the Berlin Poliklinik, and he describes the financial details and the schedule of treatment at the Institute.

The Berlin Poliklinik was opened in 1920, after Freud’s 1918 proposition to create institutions and out-patient clinics where treatment is free. This is one of Freud’s greatest achievements and a frequently overlooked contribution to public health reform.
