[Vitoria]: [between 1879–1881]. Four original, vintage photographs. Albumen silver print. Ca. 110 x 147 mm; 113 x 146 mm; 94 x 134 mm; 55 x 85 mm. All photographs with traces of creasing, one with small damage to the lower corners. Subject marked on the verso of each print in pencil. Overall in very good condition.

A collection of original, vintage photographs of the Spanish serial killer, Juan Díaz de Garayo, known as "The Sacamantecas" ("The Fat Extractor”), comprising three mugshots portraying him from different angles, and a copy of the most iconic image of him, a full-length portrait picturing him seated, with shackled legs.

Juan Díaz de Garayo y Ruiz de Argandoña (1821–1881) killed and raped six women between 1870 and 1879. After his arrest, he became known as The Sacamantecas, referring to the bogeyman in Spanish folklore characterized by killing for human fat.
