“Miesięcznik Literacki" was an unofficial organ of the Communist Party in Poland, with social and cultural content, in the genre of the German expressionist movement and the ideas embraced by the Soviet Novyi Lef. It was published between 1929 and 1931, twenty numbers were issued until it was banned and many of the contributors arrested.

The editor Aleksander Wat (1900–1967) considered being one of the most important Polish writers of the 20th century and one of the precursors of the Polish Futurism in the early 1920s. After the war and his imprisonment in the Soviet Union he gave up his sympathy to Communism and in 1959 he emigrated to France, and later became a professor of Slavic literature at Berkeley, in California.

The cover of the magazine was design by Władysław Daszewski (1902–1971) the Polish stage designer and architect, who was deeply involved in the avant-garde movement since the 1920s.
