Bruno Schulz (1892–1942) was a Polish-Jewish writer, literary critic and graphic artist who is regarded as one of the greatest Polish prosaists of the last century. His writings were regularly published in the magazine Skamander.

Czesław Miłosz (1911–2004) was a Polish poet, novelist, essayist, and translator. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1980 described as a writer who “voices man’s exposed condition in a world of severe conflicts.”

Skamander, published from 1920 to 1928, and again from 1935 to 1939, was the main organ of the eponymous Polish avant-garde literary group, founded around 1916.
