First Polish edition of the panegyric to the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania, Henry of Valois (later Henry III of France) by the Great Secretary to the King of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Bishop of Włocławek Stanisław Karnkowski.

Following the death of Sigismund II Augustus, in exchange for military support against Russia, diplomatic assistance in dealing with the Ottoman Empire, and financial subsidies, Henry of Valois, later Henry III of France became the King of Poland. On Henry’s entry into Meseritz (Międzyrzecz) it was Karnkowski who welcomed him in the name of the Polish estates. Karnkowski’s panegyric to Henry was published in 1574 in Poland (the present edition) and also in Paris by Michel de Vascosan and Fédéric Morel (in two different versions by both printers). This Kraków edition by Maciej Wirzbięta is the rarest among all, we could only trace copies in Polish libraries and a copy in München (BSB).

In 1574 Stanisław Karnkowski (1520–1603) served as the Great Secretary of the Crown and Bishop of Włocławek, later in 1581 he became the primate of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and in 1586–1587 he governed Poland as the interrex of the Kindom.
