The book, Türkische Schau-Bühne gives a detailed account of the politics, religion, history and society of the Ottoman Empire, with a description of its sultans from Osman I to Mehmed IV. It is based on the writings of the English historian Richard Knolles (1545–1610), and the British diplomat, Paul Rycaut (1629–1700), especially on Rycaut’s 1665 work, The Present State of the Ottoman Empire. The engraved plates, representing the costumes of the different Turkish people, were made after Sébastien Leclerc’s (1637–1714) illustrations for the 1670 French edition of The Present State of the Ottoman Empire.

The first book in the volume, Der Türkischen Groß-Sultanen is a comprehensive work on the Ottoman Empire by the much-read German polymath, Erasmus Francisci (1627–1694, born as Erasmus Finx). It starts with an introduction of the sultans, which is followed by a detailed account of the main towns and cities of the empire in alphabetical order. The book is richly illustrated with plates of the major cities, such as Constantinople, Alexandria, with their fortifications.

Both works are extremely scarce. WorldCat locates only two copies of Türkische Schau-Bühne and seven of Der Türkischen Groß-Sultanen in institutional holdings, none in the US.
