Collection stamps on title and last page. Underlines and notes on title page probably by a contemporary hand in ink, further notes in pencil. The title and the last page slightly dusted and tanned. A small tear to p. 51 (D2) at the head with no effect on text. Overall in fine condition.

The French general, Jacques François Dugommier’s memoir about the civil war in Martinique which broke out in 1790. With addresses of gratitude, that were presented to Dugommier on his departure from Martinique.

Jacques François Dugommier (1738–1794) was a general of the French Revolution. He was selected as a member of the National Assembly in Guadeloupe 1789. When a year later civil war broke out in Martinique, Dugommier travelled there to help the inhabitants of Saint Pierre in fighting against the local garrison as the head of the volunteers. He published his memoirs in order to justify his participation in the revolution.
