First book of poems by Izabella Stachowicz (1893–1969) the Polish-Jewish writer, whose adventurous life curves from the literary and artistic avant-garde circles of Warsaw through the Warsaw ghetto to the Armia Ludowa, the partisan force of the communist Polish Worker’s Party, to end up as a lieutenant of the Milicja Obywatelska, the Soviet-controlled paramilitary organization in Poland.
