The magazine “Nowa kultura” (New Culture) was a short-lived attempt of a collaboration between Polish avant-garde artists and the Communist Party between July 1923 and September 1924 (initially published weekly, later monthly). The journal was officially edited by Edward Staniecki and Franciszek Kwiatkowska, however, the real editor, and founder of the magazine was Jan Hempel, a committed member of the Communist Party. One of the main contributors to the publication was Władyslaw Broniewski, and through him, the Polish futurists also became involved in the project. The design of “Nowa kultura” was created by the avant-garde painter and graphic artist Mieczyslaw Szczuka, one the founders of the of the Warsaw avant-garde artist’s group “Blok” and co-editor of the associated art magazine.

This issue, besides articles by Hempel and other writings, published probably the first time in Polish a detail of Mayakovsky’s 150 000 000, with constructivists typographical illustrations by Szczuka, and a reproduction of Georg Grosz’s drawing.
