The first edition of the first complete verse translation of any Shakespeare plays into Czech.
Othello’s first Czech translation, a prose version by Simeon Karel Macháček, was published in 1827 (Prague: Josefa Fetterlowá z Wildenbrunnu). The present version, made by Jakub Malý, is the first complete Shakespeare play to be translated in verse into Czech, and this is its first edition.
Outside of the Czech Republic and Slovakia we could trace only four copies in institutional holdings, two in the UK (British Library; University of Oxford), one at the Austrian National Library, and another at the Royal Danish Library.
