Czech Trade Catalogue of Modern Designer Home Accessories

Magazin Aka. Brno - Veselá 4 - Palác Mor. Banky, T. 14.128.

Brno: [Magazin AKA], [ca. 1935.]. Photographically illustrated on each page. First edition. Three times folded leporello. A light brown stain on the front page, otherwise in fine condition.

Photographically illustrated modernist trade catalog of Magazin AKA, Bohuslav Fuchs’ department store.

AKA was a family-run department store for designer home accessories, founded in 1932 by the outstanding Czech modernist architect Bohuslav Fuchs, with his brother, brother-in-law, and wife who was a textile designer. This trade magazine features various household textiles (some of them were probably designed by Drahomira Fuchsova) glassware (designed by Bohuslav Fuchs, Alois Metelák, and the Kavalier glass company), ceramics and metalware. The typography is credited as Mag. AKA, however, the brochure is most likely a design by František Kalivoda, as most of the printed material of the company.

Other issues of Magazin AKA-catalogue could be found in the collection of MoMA.
