Panels ruled with gilt waves, with floral stamps at corners. Spine with five raised bands, compartments richly gilt. Edges gilt. Paste-paper endpapers. Text framed by ornamental ruling on the title page and written in red and black ink. Pages ruled throughout, plate titles are written in red. With colored illustrations throughout. ff (4) [2 blank, title, “Explication”], (121) [titled plates with drawings and explanations of which 11 folded], (3) [“Plans register” on 5 pages], (3) [1 ruled, 2 blank]. Spine with a wormhole at the head, small damage to the joint at the tail. Panels very slightly rubbed, a scratch on the rear panel. With a few humble notes in pencil occasionally, otherwise clean. The content (“Plans register”) suggests a text volume, however, it is not presented. In fine condition.

A neat late eighteenth-century, probably Austrian manuscript drill book for cavalry. Illustrated with more than 120 colored drawings, each titled, showing various formations and movements from one position to another (line, echelon, changing direction, march, charge, etc.) and more complex movements of a cavalry division.
We could not find any trace of a printed version of this book.
