Scarce and important German geographical work on the British and French colonies in North America, in relation to the ongoing French and Indian Wars and the struggle for Acadia.

Despite the title which calls for one, the book holds two hand-colored maps, both from Schreiber's Atlas Minor. The first shows the whole continent of America with accompanying table, it shows California as an island and other common cartographical oddities of the era. The second "Charte von dem Engelländischen u. Französischen Besitzungen in Nord America” is an interesting, detailed map of the British and French colonies in North America, shows many forts, villages, Indian names, and early colonial settlements, and includes excellent details west of the Mississippi River and the Great Lakes and Texas region. The map is also an early appearance of the newly formed (1752) Georgia Colony. The coloring distinguishes the region between the Appalachian Mountains and the Mississippi River disputed by France and England.

The book starts with an explanation of the map and its coloring, and continues with the description of the territories involved or had importance in the French and Indian Wars. Besides the general overview, it gives a detailed explanation of the qualities and abilities of Newfoundland, Cape Breton Island, Bermuda, a lengthy description of Acadia or Nova Scotia. It goes on with the account on New England, and details Connecticut, Rhode Island, the Massachusetts Bay, and New Hampshire; then New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Carolina, Georgia, Florida. Shortly introduces New France and describes Canada and Louisiana at length.

Although the book is occasionally attributed to John Oldmixon, as the second German edition of his book with the same title (Das Britische Reich in America. Lemgo: Meyer, 1744.), it is definitely not an abridgment of that work. Our book also differs considerably from the of 1761 edition by Gottlob Hebold in Sorau, which is regarded as its second edition, however that must be the reissue of the 1756 Hebold publication as they are identical in page-number (both are 48-pages, unlike this volume).
